Short Bio
Emma Griffiths, currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Continuum Mechanics and Biomechanics (LKM), studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. After this she began her master’s studies at the Centre for Research in Computational and Applied Mechanics at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Working with Prof. Swantje Bargmann at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, she completed her PhD in “Micromechanical modelling of advanced hierarchical composites” in 2020. She then took up her postdoctoral position within the BRAINIACS research group in 2021. Her focus of research is on the computational modelling and simulation of the brain. Her areas of interest include full scale brain models, brain damage modelling and general software development.
